Ecology and presence in Slovenia

The species is distributed in some European countries and Japan. Recent research confirms that it is native to Europe. In Slovenia, it was found in 2014 in the Port of Koper, in a trap at a terminal storing Austrian timber (Figure 186). Hosts include Picea jezoensis, P. obovata, P. abies, Pinus sylvestris. Adults are dark, with brown elytra, longitudinally streaked with black. Morphologically, the species is similar to other Trypodendron species, differing in particular by the dark colour of the legs. An ambrosia beetle and saproxil, its distribution and economic importance in Slovenia are not known.
