Ecology and presence in Slovenia

The species is found in Dalmatia, Bulgaria, Greece and Asia Minor. Hosts include Pinus nigra, P. heldreichii and Picea orientalis. The only specimen found in Slovenia was trapped in 2016 in the Port of Koper (Figure 90). Like other members of the genus Crypturgus, it lives for a certain period of time as a “space parasite “, extending the already bored tunnel systems of other species of bark beetle. Adult length is 1.0-1.2 mm. It differs from other species of the genus Crypturgus found in Slovenia by its long neck shield, with a length to width ratio of 1.15 – 1.20.
