Ecology and presence in Slovenia
The species is distributed in Europe, SW Russia, North Africa, the Nearctic and the Neotropics. In the 19th century, it was probably confused with other bark beetles (“the species is not rare in Carniola, under pine bark” (Siegel 1866)). The only reliably identified specimen in Slovenia was caught in Gorenjska into a trap with a combination of pheromones (Pheroprax® and Chalcoprax®) (Figure 23). Hosts include Trifolium pratense, Ulex europaeus, Ononis natrix, Sarothamnus scoparius, Laburnum alpinum, L. anagyroides, Lembotropis nigricans, Medicago sativa, Medicago spp., Trifolium pratense and Cytisus spp.. Adult length is 2.0-2.5 mm.
